Michael Boyman

Composer's Biography
Michael Boyman is a recent graduate of New York University, where he studied music composition and political science. Born in Summit, New Jersey, Michael started playing the viola in 4th grade and began composing in 6th grade, focusing on classical concert music. He has served as principal violist of the New Jersey Youth Symphony and Sussex Youth Orchestra, and has participated in two European concert tours. He is currently principal of the New York Youth Symphony and was recently a guest artist with the St. Louis Youth Symphony. As a composer, Michael has written a variety of orchestral and chamber music. His output includes five symphonies, two concert overtures, a string quartet, a piano trio, and various works for solo piano. He has studied with David Ludwig, Robert Cuckson, Andrew Thomas and George Tsontakis, and recently participated in a master class with John Corigliano. Michael currently studies with Justin Dello Joio.
