Composer's Biography
Diogo Novo Carvalho was born on the 15th July 1986 in Paris, France. He was four when his parents went back to Portugal. He starts his music studies when he was six, at the Music and Dance School Alberta Lima. In 2004 he finishes music complementary studies at the Music School Óscar da Silva, where he concludes piano classes with Anabela Santos and composition with Fernando Valente. He applies for the composition course and joins the Superior School of Music and Arts in Porto. At the same time he takes part in several workshops, such as Percussion by Francisco Soares; Composition by Amílcar Vasques Dias; Piano Master Classes with Álvaro Teixeira Lopes, Jaime Mota, Miguel Borges Coelho and Rodolfo Rubino. From 2004 to 2008 he works composition with Filipe Vieira, Dimitris Andrikopoulos, Fernando Lapa and he has the privilege of having classes with the composer Magnus Lindberg and Kaija Saariaho. In 2008 joins the piano course in the Communication & Art Department of the University of Aveiro. In September 2008, his work Letifico Innocens receives the golden medal in the 6th Composition Competition of Volos, Greece and the 1st Prize of the International Festival InterArtia 2008, in the category of composition for symphony orchestra. In December 2008 the International Art Society of Greece elected him “Artist of the Year 2008”. As a performer, in May 2009, received an honorable mention in the 2nd International Piano Competition of Guarda.
