Composer's Biography
Esther Megargel received her early music training in the California Bay Area, where she studied both piano and violin. She has degrees in Music Education from Western Oregon University (1975) and in Composition from the University of Oregon (2008). She is currently in the master’s degree program in composition at Brigham Young University. Her teachers have included Robert Kyr, David Crumb, Stephen Ricks and Michael Hicks. She taught music in Oregon public schools prior to her present career as composer and piano teacher. She has won composition awards from Mu Phi Epsilon, the LDS Church, and Oregon Music Teacher’s Association. She received an award as outstanding undergraduate scholar in composition from the University of Oregon in 2008. She was also commissioned as Composer of the Year by OMTA in 2009.
