Composer's Biography
Dr. Mark Andrew Cook, formerly Director of Jazz Studies and a member of the Music Theory Faculty at Shepherd University, was appointed the Director for Music Theory and Composition in 2008. He continues to serve on the Jazz Faculty. Previously, he was Jazz Ensemble Director and a member of the Music Theory Faculty at The Catholic University of America, and an Adjunct Music Theory Faculty member at Towson University. He was an Associate Professor of Music at Montgomery College, teaching Jazz and Theory subjects, directing the Jazz Ensembles, the Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Music Theater Productions. He served as Music Director and Conductor for the MC Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his duties at Shepherd University, he serves as Guest Lecturer in Music Theory and Composition at The Barbara Ingram School for the Arts. He holds Masters and Doctoral degrees in Music Theory from The Catholic University of America and a B.M.Ed. from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, where he was in the trumpet studio of Donald R. Tison. An active composer, his works were recently selected for performance at the Mid-Atlantic Chapter Conference of the College Music Society and the National Convention of the Society of Composers.
