Composer's Biography
Thordur Magnusson has been nominated for the Nordic Council Music Prize 2004, won the Icelandic Music Awards prize, best classical piece of the year for his first Symphony in 2004, nominated for the best classical piece of the year for his Piano Trio 2003. Thordur Magnusson belongs to the younger generation of Icelandic composers. In 1996 he took his degree in composition at the Reykjavik College of Music, where he had studied with Gudmundur Hafsteinsson. He was then admitted to the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. In connection with his stay in Paris he studied with among others Emanuel Nunes. Since coming back to Iceland Magnusson has written a number of works that have aroused some attention, and which have been performed by ensembles like CAPUT, Trio Nordica, Icelandic Symphonic Orchestra, KaSa, Quatuor Bozzini and the Ethos String Quartet. As well as composing, Magnusson teaches at Reykjavik College of Music and at Music School of Gardabaer.
